Bethnal Green Voices
We are a Community Singing Group that meets weekly on Wednesday evenings 7-9pm at St Margaret’s House Chapel. We sing songs to soothe our souls and connect to the earth. Simple rounds, nourishing harmonies and playful improvisation. All voices and abilities actively encouraged. We look to build your singing confidence in a nurturing space. Expect folk, gospel, sacred, world and a few surprises.
The Chapel sits directly behind The Gallery Cafe, the entrance is to the left of St Margaret's House and Gallery Cafe main building, through wrought iron gates, follow the path around to the right.
Mother Song
Simple songs sung by mothers to be, new mums, grandmothers, carers together or in parts. Together we create a soothing aural experience for bump & baby. We sing lullabies, folk, gospel, African and sacred songs - all taught by ear, all voices welcome. The sessions are tailored for all, from new to accomplished singers. Inviting you to come as you are. Letting go of any judgement and expectation as to how we ‘should’ sound or be, arriving exactly as we find ourselves in the moment.
Ran over Spring and Summer 2023, I now offer these sessions to small groups, baby showers and festivals
Nollaig na mBan
Come and gather as women and sisters to celebrate Nollaig na mBan, ‘Women’s Christmas’, born out of a time when women did most, if not all, of the Christmas labour. We meet on the 6th January to honour the end of Christmas, saving the last day for ourselves. We’ll break bread, sing and move, a chance to connect with other women and close the winter festivities properly. In honour of my late Irish Grandmother, Bernadette O’Donnell, and all the other women who laboured hard so we could have the best of it. And for ourselves and all the extra effort women make over the Christmas period. People may argue that the disparity no longer exists, I feel in most part it does, although not to the same degree. It is important to take time for ourselves.
Balancing Aces
A 10 week improvisation singing project to connect us to those emotions and feelings we may be unable to fully acknowledge. We delve inwards through sounds, words, breath and movement. Together we welcome in and sit beside that which arises. Euphoria, sadness, self-appreciation, enjoyment, silliness, anger, grief - feelings that naturally exist. Allowing a compassionate space to observe, free from judgement.
Price per session: £10 taster, £12 regular, £15 drop in, a limited number of concessions available, please contact me directly using the contact form on this website.
